Partners and Colleagues,
You may have noticed a new look and feel across our campaign channels
in recent months. We’re excited to share the next step in that
evolution: we have formally rebranded as Employers for Hospital
Accountability—because visibility of the problem was never the
end goal.
Last year, we launched the Employers Against Hospital Pricing Abuse
campaign to elevate hospital pricing as a critical issue in policy
conversations. While that effort helped bring attention to the
challenges employers face, a lot of work remains to deliver relief to
working families and the businesses and unions that cover their care. In
too many markets, prices are still difficult to understand; variation is
wide, and the relationship between price and value is often unclear.
This new brand reflects a shift from awareness to action, with a
focus on advancing solutions that drive greater transparency and
accountability in the system to ultimately reduce costs.
As outlined in our new position paper, hospital accountability means
at a minimum:
-
Reimbursement should reflect the true cost of the service
delivered—not who owns the facility. -
Competition is needed to reduce the prices employers and families
pay. -
Public benefits that hospitals receive should be transparent and
translate into lower costs for working families and real community
benefits.
We are inviting employers, hospitals, policymakers, and other
stakeholders to align around a clear standard for accountability and the
call for reform. Success should be visible: clearer pricing, more
consistent practices, and cost trends that are more sustainable.
For those already engaged in this work, thank you. For those who
share these concerns and want to be part of what comes next, we welcome
your partnership.
This is an opportunity to move beyond frustration and toward a more
accountable, transparent, and sustainable system.
Let’s move forward, together.
Sincerely,
Shawn Gremminger
